Edgar Bancroft to Charles Norton, 1905
Attorney Edgar A. Bancroft, Merchants Club president for the year ending in 1900 and future member of the Committee on Lake Parks, described the club's main activities during his presidency. They ranged from working for parks and playgrounds in Chicago's neighborhoods to reorganizing the consular service. Bancroft also explained the high standards for Merchants Club membership, the key one being "devotion to, and efficiency in, matters of public interest."
