McCullom Lake, IL

McHenry County, 52 miles NW of the Loop. Beginning as a string of summer cottages along the north shore of a lake northwest of McHenry in the 1920s, McCullom Lake incorporated in 1955 to allow local control of lake maintenance and road improvements. The village has remained a moderate-income bedroom community, with a population of 1,038 in 2000.
