Saturday last the men at the Stock-Yards agreed to give the eight-hour system with eight hours' pay a trial of two weeks and then fix upon their future wages by some scheme of arbitration. They agreed to go to work yesterday morning, but when yesterday morning came between 6,000 and 7,000 of them went back upon their agreement and struck. Is this keeping faith? If they are not going to abide by their agreements, what hope can employers have that any arrangement they can make will be observed by the men?
