Construction of Municipal Pier
Return to "Implementation"

Municipal (later Navy) Pier was built between 1913 and 1916 (this photograph was taken in 1914). Three thousand feet long and almost three hundred feet wide, it contained harbor facilities, warehouse sheds, railroad tracks, office space, and a ballroom at the eastern end (which still remains). For more on the evolution of the pier from conception to reality, see the Implementation Map.
