On March 23, 1963, Mayor Richard J. Daley hosted President John F. Kennedy at the dedication of the new passenger terminal
at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. In an age of diminishing railroad traffic and increasing travel and shipping by
air and road, the city's new airport and its location at the intersection of several interstate highways were essential to
the city's status as a vital nexus.
