Johnsburg, IL

McHenry County, 46 miles NW of the Loop. Immigrants from Germany's Eifel region named the area Johnsburg in the1840s, after their church. In 1956, subdivision pressures led to the incorporation of a small area called Sunnyside. Fearing the growth of McHenry, neighboring residents supported annexation of their properties into Sunnyside in 1992 and successfully petitioned to rename the whole village Johnsburg. The 2000 population was 5,391.
